Open Access (OA) provides a sustainable funding model for scientific communications while ensuring the widest possible access to research. Wider audiences and new readers can now freely access research articles without the hassle of payment or institutional support, which may be required to cover the expensive subscription. Open Access allows readers to use articles and data in new ways, including practices like meta-analysis and text mining, which reveal trends in science that would not be obvious at the level of individual articles.
IP Indian Journal of Neurosciences is a self-financed open access journal, which is published in both online and print versions. Article publication charges levied to authors are the only source of income that is utilized in maintaining the administrative and the print cost. Also, the very least part of revenue comes from advertisements and subscriptions.
The APC is based on an adjusted scale, providing reduced rates for low- and middle-income countries on the publication charges. Operating expense including the cost of web presence, print version, pre-press preparations, and staff salaries is supported by above-mentioned resources.
KERF has outsourced all pre-publication, publication, and post-publication processes to the publisher, including APC management.
